Level 2 Award

The Principles of COSHH (RQF)

The most valuable asset of any company is the employee. Accordingly, business management, no matter how large or small, has both moral and legal responsibilities to assure the health and safety of those employed by any company as well as non-employees.

The Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974 (HASWA) identifies the responsibilities of employers (as well as employees or contractors) of the duties required for maintaining compliance with this Act of Parliament. Attached to the intention of this Act is a UK Statutory Instrument known as the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) of 2002 which is intended to protect employees, as well as contractors and business visitors, of substances potentially hazardous to health.

Intended Audience

This Level 2 Award in Principles of COSHH (RQF) is not only ideal for all employees, it is uniquely valuable for those who wish to work, or currently work, in an environment containing hazardous substances. Such environments might include healthcare centres; laboratories; manufacturing; cleaning, and even office settings where chemical risks are perceived to be low.

Course Overview

During this half day course, learners are taught an elementary understanding of workplace laws pertaining to hazardous substances as well as the necessary precautions and safe handling of such substances at a basic yet essential level. An explanation and emphasis of COSHH referencing with safety data sheets is provided in this course.

Assessment Methods

One 15 multiple choice question paper (MCQ theory assessment) is conducted at the end of the course, and continuous formative assessment throughout the course.

A failure to successfully complete this course seldom occurs, and every effort is made by each instructor to assure a successful understanding of the course material is achieved. However, if a student fails to successfully complete any module of the course, remediation is offered.
