Level 3 Award

First Aid at Work (RQF)

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation of 1981 requires all employers in the United Kingdom to provide adequate resources and ability to provide immediate first aid should any individual become ill or injured in the work setting. This regulation also mandates conducting risk and hazard assessments as well as providing adequate first aid training to address the types of hazards identified within the entire workplace.

Intended Audience

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is a nationally recognised and regulated qualification designed to provide employers with staff members competent in more advanced first aid.

This course is also an ideal qualification for those interested in providing voluntary first aid in the public sector.

Individuals intending to take this course should be mentally and emotionally equipped to provide all levels of first aid wherever and whenever necessary.

Course Overview

The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is conducted over a three-day period where students learn to successfully manage various emergencies which require first aid in or out of the workplace. The skills learned include (but are not limited to): incident assessment; managing an unresponsive casualty; identifying and managing heart attacks; CPR/AED, diabetic emergencies; anaphylaxis; choking, and an array of trauma including spinal injuries, fractures, head trauma and managing severe bleeding. A complete paediatric component is had as well.

Assessment Methods

Student assessment in this course are both formative and summative. Students are assessed throughout the duration of the course in a manner which allows each student to identify their strengths and weaknesses in a friendly and encouraging manner. Additionally, there are six practical assessments and two theory assessments in the form of multiple-choice questions.

A failure to successfully complete the course seldom occurs, and every effort is made by each instructor to assure a successful understanding of the course material is achieved. However, if a student fails to successfully complete any module of the course, remediation is offered.
