Level 3 Award

Combined First Aid at Work & Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation of 1981 requires all employers in the United Kingdom to provide adequate resources and ability to provide immediate first aid should any individual become ill or injured in the work setting. This regulation also mandates conducting risk and hazard assessments as well as providing adequate first aid training to address the types of hazards identified within the entire workplace.

Intended Audience

This course is streamlined to avoid duplication of modules associated with attending the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work and Level 3 Paediatric First Aid courses separately. Accordingly, the Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid course has been designed for individuals who require dual competency in both adult and paediatric first aid in a singular time saving course. Work settings which could benefit from this course might include schools, sports clubs and childcare settings.

Individuals intending to take this course should be mentally and emotionally equipped to provide all levels of first aid in both the adult and paediatric setting wherever and whenever necessary.

* Please note that students who wish to attend this course must be at least 16 years of age on the first day of training.

Course Overview

This Level 3 Award in Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid is conducted over an extended three-day period where students learn to effectively manage both adult and paediatric emergencies which require first aid in or out of the workplace. The skills learned include (but are not limited to): incident assessment; managing an unresponsive casualty; identifying and managing heart attacks; CPR/AED; diabetic emergencies; anaphylaxis; meningitis; choking, and an array of trauma including spinal injuries/head trauma, fractures and managing severe bleeding.

Assessment Methods

Student assessment in this course are both formative and summative. Students are assessed throughout the duration of the course in a manner which allows each student to identify their strengths and weaknesses in a friendly and encouraging manner. Additionally, there are eight practical assessments and two theory assessments in the form of multiple-choice questions.

A failure to successfully complete the course seldom occurs, and every effort is made by each instructor to assure a successful understanding of the course material is achieved. However, if a student fails to successfully complete any module of the course, remediation is offered.
